Philippines Communications and Electronic Service 77th Founding Anniversary was celebrated at Philippines National Police Multi-Purpose Center in Quezon City on 28th Aug. Around 400 police officers attended this event. A much anticipated DMR (Digital Mobile Radio) communications system was launched during the event, as part of the major effort to strengthen PNP (Philippines National Police) connectivity through digital transformation. A series of live demo was carried out during the celebration.
Hytera, a global leading provider of professional and private wireless communications solutions provided communications service for PNP to fulfill their target of strengthening communication connectivity, which is aligned to the Smart Policing Project of the PNP.
The previous PNP analog radio communications system was put in service since 1995, which has lifecycle of 10-12 years. APCO P16, the technology it adopted, was outdated compared to the radio systems used by PNP counterparts in other countries. Serious communication issues had risen along with the aging analog system, such as high costs of maintenance due to frequent repair and spare parts outage, poor interoperability, inadequate coverage, low frequency efficiency. The new sophisticated DMR system was established to solve the problems, meanwhile bringing many other up-to-date functionalities.
“During the actual demo, we witness a seamless connectivity with Regional Headquarters from PRO-7 and PRO-11. The communication and radio check between offices is very clear. And it very understandable connection using the DMR of Hytera which is deployed nationwide.” said police major Crysler M. Benedicto, Chief, Com Center Section, FOCCD, CES.
Hytera provided an intelligent DMR trunking system and around 20,000 industry-leading digital terminals, including mobile radio MD788, portable radio PD988, PD788 etc., aiming to establish a modern communications system. The new system is a highly reliable, secured and unified national communications system which could enable PNP to accomplish daily operation and mission critical, featuring smooth migration from analog to digital, and high interoperability. The new system can be integrated with many other systems, such as PSTN (Public Switched Telephone Network), car ID database for query, etc.
“The DMR Technology provided by Hytera is very very clear particularly in our area - Davao City which we are implementing TIER 3 level. Currently, all the major events in Davao, which is the city of the Philippine President is relying on this technology particulary the product of Hytera. Even as we speak this time, it is now being use for another important event in another province for their celebration. I bring my Hytera radio with me here in Manila and it is still working and has a very nice voice reception.” said police lieutant colonel Donel A Sungkip, AC, RCEO11.
